So much of Ticker’s success rests on our control of the bottom line (and, of course, loss ratio). We set out to achieve sustainable growth, which led to us moving into profitability this year.
A huge amount of credit for that goes to our Chief Financial Officer, Summa Loving. Summa joined Ticker in the very early days and worked alongside our founder and CEO to raise £25m in total to build the business.
The financial landscape over the five years since Ticker’s launch has been unprecedented, so to raise investment and reach profit in that time is quite extraordinary.
Female CFOs in the UK insurance sector only accounted for 16% of the total in 2023, according to employment law firm GQ Littler.
C-suite roles are still male-dominated, and as finance is one of the most male-dominated fields, the battle women face to move upwards is compounded.
“The role of CFO requires a very adaptable personality; you need to say no a lot, but also be prepared to listen and pivot. Our CFO, Summa, is the perfect fit for Ticker: she’s whip-smart and tough, but she’s also an incredibly well-loved people person.”Richard King

Recognising her achievements, Summa has recently been shortlisted for a Women in Insurance award, which honours the success of women across the insurance sector.
Having started her first role in insurance when she was just 23, Summa has had an impressive career of promotions and head hunts. It’s not been without challenges, which Summa credits with making her the leader she is today.
“The insurance industry has a culture of male dominance. To succeed as a female CFO within the sector, you need not only strength but empathy to lead and instil confidence within your team and peers.
“A huge part of being a female CFO is modelling success for younger women, and providing inspiration, mentoring and belief that they can succeed in the insurance sector, too.
“My most successful moments throughout my insurance career have come from the silent pride of seeing someone that I have coached reach their own aspirations and goals.”Summa Loving
