DVLA launches new online account for motorists

The DVLA has released a new all-in-one, self-serve account for public beta testing. It means motorists can access their driving licence and vehicle details in the same place.

The account itself is free and simple to set up, and motorists will be able to use an email and password to log in once signed up. The account will let drivers:

• View their driving information, including endorsements and penalty points
• View vehicles that are registered to them including tax and MOT status
• Change their contact preferences
• Set up vehicle tax reminders by email and, for the first time, SMS text
• Choose to stop getting tax reminders in the post

Services planned for the account in the future include applying for a first provisional licence and a 10-year licence renewal where drivers can upload a photo and track its progress.
